How it works

Cue the dramatic music and some drum roles, please… 🥁

Today’s GTM playbook features none other than mister Tim Yakubson. Founder of B2B Boosted agency, the wizard of Clay himself (yes - I bought his course), and overall a fun guy to talk outbound with. And no, this isn't a paid promotion, I'm just that much of a fan.

A few weeks back I asked him to join the Outbound Outliers squad… but with a twist. Let's get Tim to show us his Heisenberg stuff or, in plain English, his atypically creative campaigns. Needless to say, Tim delivered.

He's got this whole lead magnet distribution system and uses LinkedIn outreach as his go-to channel. Through this approach, he builds lasting credibility. Many of his message respondents eventually convert into clients.

The stats are backing it up. We're talking 30-50% connection acceptance rates and 15-25% reply rates. But wait, it gets better - his best campaign hit a whopping 45% acceptance rate and 26% reply rate from 1,051 leads.

So, shall we peek behind the curtain and see how Tim actually makes this happen?

First move you ought to make is to pick one persona that has one specific problem and then figure out the ideal lead magnet for them.

Tim has a very strict rule when creating lead magnets.

According to him, lead magnet is not a brochure, one pager, or a deck fixing a big problem. Quite the contrary, it is a small niche problem-solver, but they will still need you to handhold them through the rest of it.

In other words, you solve a specific problem your target audience is having while introducing the core problem solved ideally with your product or service. It has to be targeted at people that are problem-aware or solution-aware. For example:

  • Problem 1: Hiring talent in the US is expensive
  • Solution 1: A recruitment agency that places talent
  • Lead magnet 1: Profiles of MPCs that fit the job criteria (remote) + a calculator to calculate savings
  • Where to find people: Follow recruitment companies on LinkedIn

Here's another example:

  • Problem 2: Landing in the inbox is hard
  • Solution 2: Buy domains in seconds
  • Lead magnet 2: Video on how to buy domains in under 5 mins without manually setting up DKIM and DNS records
  • Where to find people: Follow Smartlead or Instantly on LinkedIn

If you're curious to learn how to create lead magnets that capture 723+ qualified leads per month… Tim has the blueprint for you.

Step 2 is to prep your LinkedIn outreach campaign. Here’s how that might look like:

lead magnet outreach strategy

Start off with sending a connection request and the add four messages in the mix.

Message 1:

Hi [NAME], I hate to be that guy, but I have this crazy [LEAD MAGNET NAME] that

Can I send it over?

Simply reply "yes" and I will rush it to you.

Message 2:

[NAME], my bad, I couldn't hold back...

Here's the [LEAD MAGNET TYPE]:

Hope you enjoy.

Message 3:

[NAME], seen it? ^^

Message 4:

[NAME], if you liked the last guide, you would love this one:

As you can see, it’s pretty friendly and human. 🙂 So high reply rates are no surprise.

Another thing that’s important to outline here is the fact Tim has 4 follow-up messages. Why? Because life happens. Sometimes people don’t respond because they opened your message while they were on a Zoom call and somebody asked them a question while they were reading your message. We’ve all been there, right? 😛

Tim guarantees a minimum 5% reply rate with this LinkedIn outreach strategy. If you try it and don't see results, send him a Loom video on LinkedIn saying "Tim, I tried your Lead Magnet outreach strategy, it doesn’t work" and he'll review it and provide actionable tips. 🚀
